Consideration — Urban Colombian millennials (22-34) who had migrated from smaller towns to cities like Bogotá, Medellín, and Cali for work or university, and who felt a quiet guilt about abandoning the local food traditions and corner-shop culture they grew up with in favor of glossy supermarket chains.

Insight

In Colombia, when people move from pueblos to big cities, they don't just lose proximity to their hometown tienda — they lose an entire sensory vocabulary. The specific smell of fresh panela being cut, the way arepas were stacked by hand, the sound of the shopkeeper greeting you by your mother's name. Supermarkets had erased that intimacy, and no amount of 'local sourcing' marketing could replicate the feeling that someone in the supply chain actually knew you.

Idea

Create 'The Invisible Aisle' — a hidden section within the Bodega Raíz website and app that only unlocked when users typed in the name of their hometown. Once inside, they found a curated selection of regional products sourced directly from small-town vendors in that specific municipality, complete with voice notes from the actual shopkeepers who packed their order.

Execution

Bodega Raíz partnered with over forty small-town shopkeepers across Colombian departments to source hyper-local products — from Boyacá almojábanas to Nariño coffee to Chocó biche liquor. Each product listing featured a short audio message from the vendor recorded on a basic phone, often addressing the buyer as 'mijo' or 'mija' and referencing the town by name. On social media, the campaign seeded short documentary-style clips of these shopkeepers reacting to orders from the big city, often visibly moved that someone from their town still remembered their store. A cohort of mid-tier Colombian YouTubers and Instagram creators — specifically chosen because they had publicly discussed their own small-town origins — unboxed their hometown packages on camera, turning the experience into an emotional ritual rather than a typical haul video.
